Immerse yourself in the beauty and culture of Uluru with this 3-day tour that includes guided hikes, sunset views, and a visit to the iconic rock formation.
From May to September
These months are recommended due to the area’s climate, which can be extreme, with scorching summers and freezing winters. The weather is generally more bearable from May to September, with cooler temperatures during the day. At this exact time, you can observe much more lively colors of the rock.
December, February, January
Unluckily, it is the worst time to travel to magnificent Uluru because this is Australia’s summertime. The temperatures may be impossible to bear in the daytime, reaching low to mid-30s most of the time. Only the shade of 45.5 degrees Celsius was recorded as the highest temperature. That is why we highly recommend trying a more comfortable time of the year.
From June to September
This is the fussiest time for tourists, mainly US and European visitors. The period is predicted to be much more crowded at the magnificent Uluru. Prices for flights are high, as well as accommodation, tours, and so on. If you want to avoid crowds, try going on holiday periods for Aussies rather than Europe or America.
The best time of day to visit Uluru
Sunset and sunrise
Uluru is well-known for its breathtaking views during the mesmerising sunrises and sunsets. The rock changes colour due to the dust particles and water vapour in the atmosphere acting as a filter, removing blue light and allowing red light through, reflecting against the surroundings and enhancing the area in vivid colours. And it is really worth it to get up late at night or early in the morning while travelling.
The day
Travelling during the day can be just as exciting as nighttime, depending on the month of your visit. It is recommended to take a guided tour to ensure you see the best sights at the optimal time of day for ideal photo opportunities.
Tips to know while travelling to Uluru
Flies are a common issue in the outback and can be quite bothersome. Bringing fly repellent and a face net is recommended to make your experience more enjoyable. It is also recommended to bring plenty of water when visiting Uluru, especially if traveling long distances, regardless of the season. It is recommended that adults carry at least two large bottles of fresh water per adult when traveling to remote areas, as options to purchase water may be limited. During your trip, be cautious around dingoes and refrain from feeding or approaching them. Despite their lovely appearance, they are natural predators, and feeding them can lead to increased confidence in approaching tourist areas.
It is important to remember to protect yourself from the desert sun by wearing sunscreen, a hat, and a shirt. Sunburn and dehydration can occur even in August and September. It is also advised to have a strongly tinted pair of sunglasses.
